Extract of a letter from a gentleman of distinction at Camp,
to his friend in this town.
The British heros in Philadelphia, have laterly furnished
us with a scene which has afforded us laughter for a month,
and will be a standing jest forever. A keg was discovered
floating down the Delaware, near the city, which being taken
by some British jacks to contain a good prize, they mann'd a
boat and attempted to haul it in; but in endeavoring to
clear it from a rope to which it was fasten'd, it suddenly
went off with great explosion, killed two, and badly wounded
seven more. The alarm was immediately given--the ships
hauled their broad-sides to--the land forces in the city
were paraded, and a most violent attack began upon every
thing in the river that had the least appearance of a keg.
The fact is literally true; and I send you a song made upon
it by Mr. ---, of Jersey.
