Philadelphia, Dec. 22. Extract of a letter dated Fort-Pitt,
Nov. 22. I am glad of this opportunity to give you an
account of the taking of the three Moravian Indian
congregations. . . [22 lines describing council held with
the Wiondats]
In answer to this the old men told them, that it was
impossible for them to move at this time and leave their
corn behind; for they & their children would perish with
hunger in the wilderness. The Wiondats immediately began to
kill their hogs and cattle, and destroy everything in their
way. All night they danced the war dance and made a most
shocking noise. . . [106 lines reporting rampages of the
Indians]
