London, Aug. 23. Last Thursday Mr. Alderman Wilkes dined
with his daughter at the Fleur de Lis in Maidstone, where he
was visited with several persons of distinction, the bells
were set a-ringing, and he very generously sent a guinea to
the ringers.-- At Ashford his reception was different, no
person, either of town or country, came near him; in a word,
his reception was different in different places, being in
some cold, in others warm, and frequently in a manner
between both.
