Character of Mumpsimus. Permit us to present you with a
statue of folly that richly deserves the most conspicuous
niche in a temple of wooden immortals: a thing which has
ever been successful in exciting both the admiration and
ridicule of mankind. . . [6 lines] present the reader with
the real portrait of Mr. Mumpsimus Bubble, the immediate
candidate for exhibition. . . [1 1/2 columns]
His next charge is levelled at the H---- T---ty, in which he
is profanely heterodox; [ ] whence progressively he
descends to David's Psalms [ ] devotes Tate and Brady to
the Devil; and send[ ] Tommy Sternhold to the pillory. .
