Intelligence!
The following is a copy of a letter from Major General Heath
forwarded by express by Jonathan Trumbull, Esq. Governor of
the State of Connecticut, to the President of the Council of
this State, received last Saturday afternoon, dated,
Head-quarters, Peck's Kill, Dec 30, 1776.
By Col. Chester, this morning arrived from his Excellency
General Washington, who was at Newtown, I have the pleasure
to acquaint you, that early on the morning of Thursday last,
his Excellency in person, at the head of about 3000 of our
troops, crossed the Delaware, attacked the enemy at Trenton,
consisting of about 1600 men; and after a brisk action of
thirty five minutes, entirely routed them, taking 1 colonel,
. . . 20 drummers, 9 musicians, 25 officers servants and 740
rank and file, prisoners. . . Together with 6 brass pieces .
. . 12 drums, a number of trumpets, clarionets, &c. 6
waggons, a number of swords, caps, &c. are trophies of
victory.
  All the prisoners, except one, were Hessians. . .
