(From a late London paper) The Thoughts of a Plain Old
woman, on the impolicy of a War with the Dutch.
We read in the life of the celebrated Moliere, that he
could foretell the reception his plays would meet with from
the public, by the effects they had on the humour of his old
housekeeper, to whom he used commonly to rehearse them,
before he ventured to produce them on the stage. -- Now, I
think, it would not be amiss, if certain of our modern
statesmen would deign to consult with some such sensible old
woman, on the expediency of any of their proposed political
measures. . .
