"Born and educated--" Where he was born we are not
altogether certain, and it is more that probable [top line
cut off] part of his education, as a drummer, fifer, and
common soldier in the garrison at Gibraltar. He afterwards
had the fortune to marry the discarded whore of an English
Lord, which opened the way to the station he now occupies in
Bermuda, with so much reputation to himself and others. . .
