Nantes, December 4. A remarkable affair engages the
curiosity of the publick here, which is a girl of 19 years
of age, who speaks without a tongue. In consequence of the
smallpox, which she had at eight years of age, her tongue
intirely rotted away. For two years after this accident she
remained without speaking, and only made a noise like
persons that are dumb. At the expiration of that time she
began to speak, and very distinctly asked her mother for
some bread; ever since which she has preserved the use of
her speech, and even sings with great ease.
