The ball that was given at court on Wednesday in honour of
his Majesty's birth-day, was very brilliant and numerous;
their Majesties came into the ball-room a little before
nine, when the ball was opened by his Royal Highness the
Duke of York and Princess Louisa Anne; minuets were danced
alternately by the Royal Family and Nobility till past
eleven, when their Majesties withdrew; country-dances
afterwards began, which continued till past one.
We are told that the diamond shoe buckles of a lady of
quality, who danced on Wednesday night at the ball at St.
James's, are valued at 5,000 guineas.
