Whereas on Monday night the 28th December 1767, the lock of
the belfry in the publick market was broke open, and the
bell of the said market was rung at an unseasonable time of
night, to the great surprise of the inhabitants of this
town, therefore a reward of 30s. shall be given to any
person or persons who will discover the offender or
offenders, upon conviction and due proof thereof, by
[signed] Hugh Ross, C.M.
