Charleston, South Carolina, . . . Feb. 23. On Tuesday last,
the 20th instant, at a Grand Lodge or General Communication
of the ancient Society of Free-Masons, the patent of
commission of his Grace the Duke of Beaufort, Grand Master
of England, appointing the Honourable Egerton Leigh, Esquire
to be Grand Marshall of South Carolina, was read and
notified in due form, near 150 members being present, who
signified their great satisfaction with the appointment. An
excellent charge was delivered, and at the conclusion of the
ceremony an ode, composed on the occasion and set to musick
was performed.
