London. . . June 22. . . This being the day appointed for
keeping the anniversary of his Majesty's birth-day. . . the
morning was usher in with the ringing of bells, and at one
o'clock the Park and Tower guns were fired. . . At noon the
following ode, composed for the day, was performed before
their Majesties, &c. in the Great Council Chamber, St.
James's.
ODE FOR HIS MAJESTY'S BIRTH DAY, 1775.
Ye powers, who rule o'er states and Kings,
Who shield, with sublunary wings,
Man's err'ng race from woe,
To Britain's sons in every clime
Your blessings waft, whate'er their crime,
On all the winds that blow.
