London, July 22. . . A few nights ago two ladies returning
to town from Kennington in a very merry mood were in the
midst of a song interrupted by an attack from three
footpads, who treated them rather rudely, and after having
robbed them of 3 L. in money, they took from them their
hats, cloaks, and shoes, and then cut the strings of their
petticoats. I am sorry, cries one of the villains, that we
have spoiled your singing, Ladies, but you may now dance
home, if you please, to the tune of Petticoat Loose.
