London, December 21. The King is in great expectations of
something being effected by the magnanimous Clinton. Let us
remember his achievements at Sullivan's Island, which a
witty bard, in a poem called THE CONQUERORS, relates in the
following facetious manner:
Bold Parker's, Clinton's tardy coup de main,
Our British arms with loss degrade and slain;
For twenty days about Long Island's shores,
Our General sleeps, nor soundings yet explores.
