An Act for forming and regulating the Militia within the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and for repealing all the
laws heretofore made for that purpose, (concluded from our
last.) . . . [multi-column document. 3/4 way down first
column, a section on alarms:] an alarm may be made by firing
three guns, one after another; or by firing a beacon, by the
direction of any commissioned officer of the militia; the
drums beating an alarm; the training band being called upon
to arm; upon which all the train band and alarm list who are
then resident in any town, shall forthwith appear compleat
with their arms and ammunition. . .
