Extract of a letter from New-York, dated 25th June.
Yesterday being the anniversary of American independence, it
was celebrated here by the ringing of bells, firing of
cannon, &c. The usual compliments and congratulations were
paid to the President and Supreme Executive Council, on the
auspicious occasion, by all ranks of people.
An elegant entertainment was given by the President, at
which were present the Honorable Council, the field officers
of militia in the city and neighbourhood, and several
officers of the army. In the evening the public were
entertained with an exhibition, called a triumphal car,
prepared by Mr. Mason, attended with music, and a number of
little boys and girls dressed in white, carrying torches.
