Extract of a letter from Albany, July 2, 1782. We have been
very unexpectedly honored with a visit from the Commander in
Chief. . . [10 lines] Brigadier Gen. Gansevort, with forty
volunteers, escorted him to Saratoga, where, after surveying
the theatre of the glorious campaign of 1777, he reviewed
the first regiment of New-Hampshire, and examining the
block-houses at that place. From thence he went, the next
day, to Schenectady; five miles from which he was received
by sixty of the principal inhabitants on horseback, who
attended him into the town amidst the ringing of bells,
firing of cannon. . .
