At noon the park and tower guns were discharged, on advice of a compleat victory [over Scottish rebels at Culloden]; and at night were the most extraordinary illuminations ever known, with bonfires, a continual firing of guns, and ringing of bells throughout this extended metropolis. The like demonstrations of joy were shewn in all parts of the kingdom, on this success. |
