London, January 9. . . [16 lines of an extract of a letter
from Utrecht on the poor fiscal state of Bonn] his court is
no longer the same where benefactions used to be dispersed
with profusion; but there is now nothing more of that,
excepting among musicians and players, who entirely engross
the favour and expence of his Serene Electoral Highness,
which increases for, and is made upon them every day more
than others. . . [18 lines] When the Elector expressed his
desire of celebrating the birth of the Duke of Burgundy, by
a Te Deum to be sung in the cathedral at Munster, and by a
discharge of the cannon of that city, it was refused him;
but, in order to make a shew of preserving the Episcopal
authority, that ceremony was performed in the chapel of a
convent of friars, where very few people assisted.
