Edinburg, Sept. 18 Last Thursday being appointed for laying
the foundation stone of the New Exchange of this city, by
the Grand Master Mason of Scotland; about two o'clock in the
afternoon, the Lord Provost, Magistrates, and others
attending, went to a theatre erected for them; and as soon
as all the Masters, Wardens, and Brethren of the several
lodges . . . [assembled, they went up into galleries, the
ston was laid] during which the Masons Anthem was first
played by the Music alone, and then all sung, all the music
and brethren joining in the Chorus, and the Music continued
to play the Anthem by themselves during the rest of the
