Occasioned by his Majesty's most gracious benevolence to his
British colonies in America, lately invaded by the French.
The muse that us'd in silvan strains to sing,
To sport in fields, and chaunt the blooming spring,
Or erst (a more ungrateful task) to storm,
At party wiles, and factions hideous form;

The joyful acclamations ring around,
The shrill trumpets play, the hoarse cannon roar,
and echoing thunders roll from shore to shore.
