Bautzen, October 17. The 13th instant Marshal Daun gave
private orders to the several Colonels and commanders of
Regiments, to march immediately after the beating the
Retreat, directing them their respective distances. They
marched accordingly, leaving a man at each tent, with
drummers here and there to beat as usual, in order to
persuade the enemy that the army was quiet in its camp, with
orders however to strike the tents as soon as ever they
heard their cannonading at daybreak. . . [4 lines] With
these dispositions we attacked the Enemy the 14th at break
of day, forced their entrenchments, and gained a compleat
victory.
