The publick may be assured, notwithstanding every report to
the contrary, that General Paoli, the late illustrious
Corsican chief, is possessed of a large property in our
funds, though we cannot pretend to ascertain the exact sum.
The general lives happily in England as the recollection of
the disastrous fate of his country can permit him, being
greatly esteemed . . . [5 lines] The General is
particularly fond of the polite arts of painting and musick,
which, we are happy to say, are cultivated to an astonishing
degree, as well by the ingenuity of private persons, as the
elaborate skill of the public professors in this country. .
