Forty dollars reward. October 13, 1772. Ran away from the
Rev. Mr. Boucher's, in Prince-Georges' County, Maryland, on
Sunday the 4th of October, a convict servant man belonging
to the Rev. Mr. Brooke, in Stafford County, Virginia. His
name is Samuel Gasford, he is an Englishman, about 23 years
of age, came into Virginia a few months ago, in the ship
Thornton, Captain Copland; It has been discovered since he
ran away, that this is not the first time of his having been
convicted to America, and that he is well acquainted with
the country northward; he is middle sized, or rather below
it, wears his own dark hair, which, however it is not
improbably he may cut off, the better to disguise himself;
he rode off a small bay blooded horse, timed with a ridge
mane, his foretop cut off, with his tail bobbed short. . .
[9 lines, description of horse and clothing] He plays
tolerably well on the German flute, which he is fond of
doing. . . [6 lines, terms]
