Vienna, March 13. Dr. Mesmer, who has been long celebrated
for the astonishing cures he has performed with the
loadstone, has lately rendered himself particularly famous,
by restoring sight to a young lady, who became blind at the
age of three years, by the small pox, and was allowed a
pension by his Imperial and Royal Majesty, in consideration
of her misfortune and extraordinary talents, which were
particularly conspicuous in the great knowledge she had
acquired in music, of which she was a perfect mistress. . .

she is much surprised at the forms of many things, which she
was only acquainted with by the touch, particularly that of
her harpsichord, upon which she cannot play but with her
eyes covered. This young person is a very interesting
object, both for the physician and the philosopher.
