The following extract is taken from a poetic piece, lately
published, entitled "Matrimonial Overtures to Lord George
Germain."
Then should my pen Burgoyne himself outwrite,
Who darts out terrific syllables from far
The Chrononhotonthologus of war.
Could one believe the mighty things he wrote,
He'd force each rebel down his neighbours throat;
Like Wantley's dragon, swallow towns and houses,
Whilst milder Indians only eat their spouses.
Troth he has led (and may like Falstaff tell)
His ragamuffins where they're pepper'd well.
And now he rests by Saratoga's floods,
Maid of the Oaks in Trans-Altantic woods.
