Guernsey, dated March 24, 1783. A most daring mutiny broke
out in the 104th regiment, quartered in Fort George in this
island, all Irish. Lieut. Governor Irving, after
information of their having fired at their officers with
ball, while they were at dinner in the mess room, and driven
them fairly out of the fort, taken possession of all the
ammunition, chosen leaders barricaded the different gates,
and bid defiance to all military subordination, invested the
fort with the 18th regiment, and a regiment of militia, four
brass six pounders, and two howitzers, the 20th instant.
About twelve o'clock at night, sent a serjeant, with a drum-
major, to summon them to surrender; the moment the drum
began to beat a parley, they fired upon them, when three
shells were thrown over the fort to frighten them; a non
commissioned officer immediately came out with terms, viz, .
