Translation of a letter from a French officer, to his Friend

Camp at Verplank, September 21, 1782.
"We joined the American army some days ago. Yesterday the
French army was reviewed by his Excellency General
Washington. . . [36 lines]
The day was terminated with an entertainment of more than
ninety covers, served with true military magnificence, . . .
[5 lines] A band of American music which played during the
dinner, added to the gaity of the company. . .
