[In a "Letter dated Annapolis, 21st December, 1782 beginning
at the bottom of page 2, about half-way down the column:]
It is rumoured that the Governor proposes to go to house-
keeping in a few days, so that, what the assembly eat with
him, will save them something; and in case he entertains
foreigners and others like the late governor, there can be
no doubt but that they will pay him in the same manner--with
nothing. It is whispered also, that he intends to give a
ball, but unless three ladies of your acquaintance can open
it, I am sure the ball will be worth nothing.-- There was a
subscription dance last night, but as I was not at it--I
shall say nothing.
