On Monday last was performed, at the Theatre in this town, a
tragedy, called The Siege of Damascus. . . [6 lines]
   Mr. Gittings, who performed Phocyas, discovered a great
deal of spirit, and has given no small proof of his dramatic
genius. Mr. Ridgely filled the character of Caled in a
distinguished manner, and evinced great judgement and
propriety. Nor are we under less obligation to Mr. Graham,
who supported the character of Abudah with the nicest
exactness and ease.-- To enter into a full examination of
the excellencies of Mr. Weisanthall, in the part of Eumanes,
would far exceed the bound we have allowed ourselves;
suffice it to say, that throughout the whole he appeared
perfectly characteristic; his action was very correct, and
displayed a peculiar talent.-- The characters of Daran,
Herbis, and Artamon, were all excellently filled by Messrs.
Round, Allen, and Buchanan, . . . [5 more lines; actors
advised "not to lay to much trust in this praise, as to make
them sacrifice their time . . . from those pursuits as are
absolutely necessary to their future happiness."]
