On the morning of the 24th of May, I had the honour to be
admitted where a brilliant circle of ladies were assembled,
in a verdant lawn, shaded by the embowering tops of beach
and birch, and washed by the meandring stream of one of the
branches of Elk; and where, a vocal contest seemed emulously
to be kept up by the feather'd songsters,--the murmuring
brooks, and the other numerous musical tenants of the vernal
grove; --when, four young misses, in the habit of court
ladies, made their appearance on nature's theatre, in front
of a select [?, paper creased] audience,, and being
presently joined by other [?] young misses, in the proper
dresses of [?] who issued from a neighbouring bower,
appeared, for a couple of hours, the most rational
entertainment that can be conceived.
