Glasgow, March 10.  On Saturday evening last, about twelve
o'clock, the inhabitants of this city were greatly alarmed
by the military drums beating to arms, which the citizens
took for a fire drum.  Their fears however were soon over
when they came to understand, that it was the sudden call
for the military to march directly for Greenock, in order to
quell a mutinous disturbance, . . . [15 lines, sailors
wanted wages.  Sympathetic workers] went through the town,
in a riotous manner, with pipes, &c. the magistrates were
obliged to call an armed force, to quell and keep them
peaceable.
   Yesterday in the time of afternoon's divine service, the
military came here from Glasgow; on their arrival, the
sailors gathered together, and hallowed, and then dispersed
into parties; and between the hours of five and six o'clock
in the evening, when the drums were beating for the roll to
be called. The mob again came together. . . [26 lines,

   This morning the magistrates, and the whole of the
gentlemen, went through with the town drummer, and made
proclamation to all sailors belonging to the ships at the
tail of the bank and Roadstead, to go immediately on board
their respective ships peaceably; and ordered the whole
inhabitants to keep within their own houses; . . .
