Index Entry | Bells, in Philadelphia, rung muffled for Boston Port Bill |
Location | Philadelphia |
Citation | MS-B.774.051 23 Jun 1774:32 (4/177) Extract of another letter from Philadelphia dated June 2, 1774. Yesterday we had a pause in the business of this city [in honour of the Boston Port-bill] and a solemn pause indeed it was, if we except the Friends, I believe nine tenths of the citizens shut up their houses. The bells were rang muffled all the day, and the ships in the port had their colours half hoisted. |
