On Wednesday morning at 7 o'clock, Mr. Manning, the grave
digger, announced the before-mentioned gentleman's arrival,
by ringing the meeting-house bell; a numerous and
respectable concourse of people instantly appeared upon the
plain, and appointed a committee, who waited upon Mr. Green,
and desired him to depart the town in 15 minutes, he
appeared reluctant, and made the same excuse that he did at
Windham, but with much less success, for a horse and cart
was provided, so that he had no other alternative, but to
mount the cart or his own carriage; he chose the latter, and
set out properly attended, with drums beating, horns
blowing, &c.
