Extract of a letter from Bath (in Bristol) dated October 22,
1780.. . . [12 lines: Pipe organ used to drown out anti-war
sermon] Some of the leading people took their hats and
walked off; but this having no effect on the Parson, our
Archdeacon (who is rector of the Abbey parish) sent the
sexton to bid the organist strike up; the bellows of the
organ were too strong to be overcome by the preacher's
exertions, the service ended, and the parson was hissed out
of church.
