Mr. Thomas please to insert . . .
I am a man in advanced age -- but still I am fond of
attending publick worship on the Lord's day.-- In this
worship singing is a most delightful part --- and it gives
me no inconsiderable pleasure - that our youth have made
such proficiency in the knowledge of this divine art, But
yet I wish that at least some part of the exercise of
singing might be performed in graver airs; and that the
performers would distinguish between joyful and melancholy
occasions and make a judicious application of their tunes. .
. [12 lines followed by] and that those tunes which are
proper only in joyful scenes, ought not to take the place of
those which are most suitable for funeral elegies! [signed]
