London, March 21, 1776. In the debate, which arose in the
committee of supply last Monday night, on the estimate of
the army extraordinaries, the death of the gallant General
Montgomery was lamented in strains on the most pathetic
eloquence that were ever heard in the House of Commons. . .
[14 lines. Lord North censured the praises upon a rebel, but
did admit that] he was only a brave, able, humane, and
generous Rebel; and said, that the verse of the tragedy of
Cato might be applied to him,
"Curse on his virtues, they've undone his country."
