Boston, Saturday, Jan. 17th 1730. Last Monday morning,
deceased here the Honourable Madame Mary Saltonstall, relict
of the late Honourable Gurdon Saltonstall Esq; Governour of
Connecticut, in the 65 year of her age.
She descended from the Reverend Mr. William Whittingham, a
famous Puritan, who in the reign of Queen Mary I, left an
estate in England of eleven hundred a year sterling, which
was a great estate in those times, and fled to Geneva to
preserve his conscience and religion. There he gathered an
English church in the congregational way, which seem to be
the first instance in these latter ages, and was chosen
their pastor. Upon Queen Elizabeth's accession, he returned
to England and was created Dean of Durham, assisted Mr.
Sternhold in the old England version of he Psalms of David,
being the author of those composures prefixed with W.W.
