Charlestown, June 3. Col Charlesworth Glover, who has been
some months on his agency in the Creek nations of Indians,
arrived in town on Thursday last, & having brought with him
twenty chiefs, of the lower Creeks, Tallepooses, Ooksukees,
and Abeekers, Kings and beloved men of those nations (and
several attendants, 41 men and 5 women) to pay their
compliments to his Excellency our Governour, who was pleased
to order the reception of said chiefs, in a pompous manner,
by ordering the troop who were handsomely mounted, to march
about two miles out of town, where the Indians waited their
coming; at meeting, Col. Prioleau & the whole troop (by the
direction of Col. Glover) dismounted, & took them severally
by the hand telling 'em they were welcome; when Col. Glover
order'd the linguister to acquaint the Indians that our
Governour had sent out these his head warriours & soldiers
of the horse to meet them, and conduct them safe to town
(where in the Council Chamber, his Excellency attended to
receive 'em) accordingly the troop re-mounted and march'd in
order, the Indians following, singing in triumphant manner,
with Eagles Tales, 'till they came to the Bowling Green
where they were receiv'd by Col. Parris, and the officers
with the foot companies under arms, who march'd on each side
of the Indians, being conducted by Col. Parris, and Col.
Glover, to the Council Chamber, where they were handsomely
receiv'd by the Governor and Council; several vollies were
fir'd by the horse and foot, and the cannon in Granvill
Bastion, discharged at the drinking the King's health. We
hear they are to have their audience this day.
