Dublin, Oct 2. On Friday evening last, as we are informed,
the following melancholy affair happened at the new play
house in Angiers-street, viz. One Daniel Hafferman, a
fellow employed there among the workmen, having been
formerly assistant to, or bailiff's follower, still as
occasion offered, gave his former occupation, in setting his
fellow-labourers, when pursued on any law-account, until at
length being detected by them, he was formerly condemned to
the pillory in a kind of Court-Marshal, and accordingly
executed in one provided for him, with much severity, every
one flinging dirt, lime, or clay at him, as they saw proper;
until finding him enough bedaub'd they tho't convenient to
cleanse him under the pump from their filth, as well as to
render him a new man for the time to come; but unfortunately
pouring on too much of the liquid, they, to the great
affright, stifled the poor creature in a few moments.
