London, Jan. 5. Extract of a letter from Dover.
While my fellow travellers and I are detained with contrary
winds, we are not a little diverted with seeing a ship laden
with Saltzburgers, lately come from Rotterdam in their way
to Georgia: They landed here last week & were invited by a
gentleman, said to be one of the trustees for that colony,
to a plentiful dinner of roast beef and plumb pudding. I
believe every body at well as my self were not a little
pleased to observe the good behaviour of these people. The
ship lying at the Quay side, they all landed, and walked
form it to the place of entertainment by two and two, with
their commissary at their head, and two divines who are
going to Georgia, clos'd the procession, singing hymns as
they passed in the German language, till they came to the
place of dining, where there was a good resort of people of
fashion, as well as ourselves, to partake of the pleasure of
this new sight. . . [3 more paras.]
