London. . . March 18. . . As soon as the news came to Derby
that the motion for a repeal of the corporation and test
acts, &c. was rejected, a certain clergyman sent to all the
churches in town to ring the bells, and at night we had many
bonfires, and two taylors and a plaisterer illuminated their
houses; a trumpeter headed the mob, who rejoyced they knew
not for what. Some of the mob being ask'd the meaning,
answer'd, that a bill was filed in Chancery against the
Presbyterians, &c. others gave as wild answers.
