Extract of a letter from a gentleman in Antigua to his
friend in Boston, Oct. 18, 1736.
This island is in a very great confusion at present, about
the Negroes rising in battle against us, (the plot happened
to be found out just before it came to a head) and therefore
hope we shall find means to prevent it; it was so far gone
that they had all their posts, and was to attack us the 30th
instant. . . [5 lines] we have and all the heads in custody,
and are every day, as we find them guilty, putting them to
miserable deaths, as I shall mention at the foot of the
letter. We have been for this fortnight, & are still
continually in arms, expecting an attack every moment, and I
believe will continue so for some time.
[Negroes executed] . . .
Mrs. Lodg's Fortune (a fidler). . .
