Paris, June 29. They write from Bayonne, that the 11th
instant the officers of the Duke de Chartres's Regiment,
which is in garrison in that city, went with their new
colours to the cathedral, where they were blessed by the
bishop, accompanied by the whole chapter, and M. Dadoncourt,
brigadier of his Majesty's forces and commandant of the
garrison. Before the benediction, the bishop made a very
fine discourse on the late Duke Regent, the present Duke of
Orleans and the Duke de Chartres his son, setting forth the
high hopes and expectations France has of the young Prince;
after which Te Deum was sung to musick, followed by the
thunder of a numerous artillery planted on the great parade
for that purpose, which was immediately answer'd by the guns
of all the ships in the harbour. . . [19 lines] When supper
was over the company went into a great salloon most superbly
adorn'd, where Prince Emanuel open'd the ball & danc'd with
several ladies. The Subaltern officers of the regiment had
their own feast a part in the exchange, situated in the
great square of Gramcot, which was a magnificently as
artfully illuminated: The Queen Dowager being inform'd of
the success of that fine decoration, went expressly to the
bridge called Font Mayo to see it, where she was saluted by
a great number of coebornes and field pieces; upon which her
Majesty immediately sent one of her gentlemen to thank the
officers for their politeness and attention. . . [1 more
