Hackman was brought by Mr. Smith, of Tothill-fields
Bridewell, from that prison, and examined before Sir. John
Fielding, in Bow-street, touching the murder of Miss

correspondent, marks the necessity of our being ever on our
guard. There is something shocking in the idea of a person's
