ON COL. BRADSTEET'S SUCCESS.
Envy, detraction, seek you dark retreat;
There gnaw your chains, there curse the brave and great.
But know, heroic Bradstreet's name shall shine,
Through all the annals of succeeding time.
May heav'n some great illustrious bard inspire,
With genius equal, and with equal fire;
O chief! to sound abroad your conqu'ring fame,
And in his works immortalize his name.
Till then, permit a bard but young in song,
To aid your triumphs as they roll along;
