ANTHEM. Composed for the Funeral of his late Majesty, Nov.
11, 1760, by Dr William Boyce, Master of his Majesty's Band
of Musicians.
The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and
there shall no torment touch them.
In the sight of the unwise they seem to die, but they are
in peace.
For tho' they be punished in the sight of men yet is their
hope full of immortality.
The hope of the ungodly is like the smoke driven with the
wind, and passeth away like a shadow.
But the righteous live for evermore.
Now are they number'd among the saints, and their lot is
among the children of men.
They shall receive a glorious Kingdom and a beautiful
crown from the Lord's hand.
As gold in the furnace hath he tried them, and receiv'd
them as burnt offerings.
They shall judge the nations, and have dominion over the
people, and their Lord shall reign for ever.
They shall be our guide unto death.
There were upwards of 200 performers, vocal and
instrumental, in the above anthem, composed and conducted by
Dr. Boyce.
