To the Editor of Lloyd's Evening Post. Sir,
The following lines are imitated from the conclusion of
Horace's first epistle. They ought to be repeated with a
particular emphasis, when we see such terrible revolutions
among the great, as what has just now happened in Russia.
For me, let Wisdom's sacred fountain flow,
The cordial draught, that sweetens ev'ry woe;
May providence the just enough provide,
Nor let me float on hope's uncertain tide:
Add thoughts compos'd, affections ever even...
Thus far suffices to have ask'd of heaven.
