London, January 16. Yesterday his majesty went to the House
of Peers in the usual state, attended by his Grace the Duke
of Rutland and the Earl of Eglinton, and gave the Royal
assent to a bill for naturalizing his Serene Highness the
Prince of Brunswick; . . . [3 lines]

Majesty, and was in the House of Lords during his Majesty's
stay there; after which he returned to Leicester-house to
dinner, where her Highness the Princess of Brunswick had
remained all the morning, taking leave of the ladies of
quality, her intimates, with the greatest tenderness and

Her Royal Highness the Princess of Brunswick was dressed
in the German fashion, in a scarlet silk, buttoned before,
sleeves down to her wrist, and with a sack behind. The
Prince was dressed in blue and gold, having changed the
dress that he went to the House of Lords in, which was a
rich gold and silver silk, with an orange coloured ribbon
and star, the ornament of the Order of the Black Eagle of
Prussia.
When her Royal Highness the Princess of Brunswick was at
the British Museum on Monday last, she was observed to fix
her eyes very attentively, for a considerable space of time,
on the picture of her Royal Grandfather, which hangs over
the fire place in the grand saloon.
A report prevailed that his Serene Highness the Prince of
Brunswick was to have gone on Tuesday night to Drury lane
Theatre incog., but he was at Leicester House, where an
elegant entertainment an ball was provided for him. Many
people who had notice of it went to the house, where they
waited with great impatience for his Highness; however,
their disappointment was much alleviated by the excellent
performance of Mr. Powell in Posthumus.
The crowd was so great at the Opera house, to see the
heriditary Prince, that the coaches of the quality could
not come near the door, which obliged the ladies to get out
and walk. Four parts in five of the numbers of genteel
persons were obliged to go back, after being in imminent
danger of being crushed to death. During the time of the
crowd there were quarrels and swords drawn by the gentlemen
who endeavoured to get up; the shrieks of the ladies were
very pitiful; a great many caps, ruffles, handkerchiefs,
earrings, aprons and cloaks, were lost, and great numbers of
