Yesterday a number of boys from the North-End going in a
boat on a frolick to one of the islands in this harbour,
they carried a drum, and several guns to divert themselves;
before they reached the place where the design'd one of the
guns that was loaded went off accidentally, and shot Michael
Bennet, son to Capt. William Bennet about 13 years of age,
and wounded him in such a manner that he died in less than
an hour after; it is a'said the boy went against the orders
of his parents, which affected him greatly, he expired
saying, This is what I have got by being disobedient to my
parents, and coming away against their consent.
People should be cautious of letting boats to careless,
unexperienced boys.
